OUR PRIORITIES

The priorities for Orton Farmers’ Market are all about People, Products and Place.

People – whether visitors or shoppers, traders or supporters in the community, people make the Market work. Orton Farmers’ Market celebrated its 200th Market in September 2018 and, up to then, had never missed a Market since 2001. Obviously, that all changed in 2020 but we’ve built back up and continue to enjoy the support of our amazing traders and their customers.

Place – Orton Farmers’ Market is FARMA accredited, so all our traders come from within 50 miles of Orton, many of them much nearer. That emphasis on local has always been a strength of the Market and it means that many of our traders are familiar local faces too. Add to that our place at the heart of the Orton community and Place is very much one of our priorities.

Products – All the food and drink for sale at Orton is local and seasonal – as are flowers and wool – and the arts and crafts on sale are created locally too. Our traders are happy to talk about their farms or businesses, how they’re run and the provenance of the products that they sell. Buying direct helps small businesses survive and there’s usually less packaging as well as far fewer food miles.
