Orton Businesses

Orton is a small village but it is fortunate still to have a pub and a shop as well as a café and a chocolate factory.

All of these are popular with visitors to the Farmers’ Market. We’re keen to ensure that new visitors are aware of them as each one can add something to your day out in Orton and each business appreciates the additional support from visitors too.

Kennedy’s Fine Chocolates

Luxury hand-made chocolates made in Orton are a great draw to the village and a popular spot for Farmers’ Market shoppers. Kennedy’s shop is open from 9am on Saturdays and the ice creams are highly recommended in the summer months too.

Orton Village Store

The village shop is also the Orton Post Office (open 9am to 5pm on Saturdays as well as Tuesdays and Thursdays). It is the ideal place to pick up a newspaper or magazine, cash or stamps, and also stocks a wide range of groceries and local specialities.

The George

Orton’s traditional pub is also a popular stopping off place for Coast-to-Coast walkers as it has overnight accommodation and, of course, serves food in the evenings too. Summer Saturday opening is from 12.30pm and The George has a great beer garden and outdoor space too. www.georgeorton.co.uk

Orton Scar Café

The Café is in Silver Yard, just a short walk from the Market, and it serves great cooked breakfasts and lunches as well as amazing cakes and other refreshments. Well-used by local walkers and cyclists throughout the week, it is open from 9am to 4pm on Saturdays.

There are also plenty of “hidden” businesses across the village, including everything from software development and education consultancy to dog walking and glass crafting plus lots of more traditional tradespeople too.

If you’re interested in finding out more then we’d highly recommend picking up a copy of The Link parish newsletter in the Village Store or The George as many of these local businesses advertise their services in The Link. Or Follow this link to the online pdfs of the current and also past issues. Or check the noticeboard in the Village Store. Or please ask a stallholder or someone up at church for advice.

And, if you’re looking for holiday accommodation, Jayne or Nev in the Village Store can probably signpost you to the owners of local cottage rentals.
